But although Hutto says she's been bartending for "more years than I want to tell you," she fits into the contemporary bartending scene as easily as any eager young buck. Harmony may seem an unlikely place to find innovative cocktail-mixing. "People want something that's familiar, but you can use that to stretch their palates," says Dee Hutto, who's been running the cocktail program at the organic burger joint for the past 10 months. There are no cupcake-flavored vodkas, and if you order a Jack & Coke, you'll be steered toward a more refined cocktail. It could easily be a 4 or better with just a little more attention in the kitchen. The bar at Burgh'ers in Harmony, Pa., isn't your typical watering hole. Mine arrived medium well and was pretty much a hockey puck by the time it stopped cooking on the plate. It was plenty of fish, but the cut meant that it was virtually impossible to grill rare. Oddly, the tuna was as a very thin slab (maybe 3/8 inch thick) from a large steak. The one slightly higher end item we got was the Ahi Tuna salad. That's probably okay for low-end pub fare, but the menu and prices clearly aim higher. Most everything looked like packaged restaurant-supply, including the french fries, grated cheeses, chicken, etc. However, if our meal was any indication, they need to work on the food. Food: The menu was promising, with some interesting options mixed in with standard pub fare. The inside of the restaurant was empty, so they were dealing with maybe 20-25 covers. Meals took about 30 minutes to arrive with nothing more complicated than an Ahi Tuna Salad on the order. She took our orders promptly and kept our drinks filled, but the kitchen clearly let her down. She stayed calm and cheerful, though it was clear that they needed another server. Service: We ate outside, and the single waitress/bartender had about 5 tables plus the bar to look after. The building itself has a high-end rustic feel, with a nice layout, good bar (indoor and outdoor), and comfortably high-end feel. Location: The setting is great with views of the lake, outdoor and indoor seating, and a generally good vibe. We ate here for lunch with 3 kids and 2 adults. The price tag (over $100 for four meals) should normally ensure a better result. There isn't much dining choice in the Lake Harmony area, so that may be why there is not much motivation to improve the service or the food. The kids' pastas and the appetizers seemed fine (if a bit greasy), but certainly not worth the long wait. The food was okay, although the fish I ordered was overcooked and hard, similar to the previous reviewer's experience. Do not go here unless you have a several hours to spare and a warm sweater. I don't know if it was a service issue or a kitchen issue or both, but I do know that we will never go back there again. By that time, we just wanted to be anywhere else but there. It was still another 15-20 minutes before the food was served (and the waitress never brought out any bread during this whole time). By this time, our kids were so cold that they just wanted to leave and my husband so aggravated that he decided not to order a different entree (in fear that it would further delay the rest of the entrees). So there we were, over an hour and fifteen minutes after we had been seated, finding out that one of the entrees wasn't going to make it. And then another 30 minutes until the waitress came over to tell my husband that they had just run out of a key ingredient for his dish. Then it was another 30 minute wait before our drinks were brought out and our dinner order was taken. Then we had to wait about 15-20 minutes before someone came over to take our drink order. But it was freezing cold in the restaurant, which made it difficult to relax. It started out promisingly, at a table with pleasant view of the lake. I agree with much of what the previous reviewer (njtraveller99) wrote so maybe there is a problem with the kitchen. I do not usually write negative reviews (preferring to focus on positive experiences), but felt one was needed in this case.
